This summer was a fun and busy one for the Allentown FFA. On June 25th the FFA took a trip to Long Beach Island. Everyone that attended had a great time. The water was refreshing and the sand was just right in temperature. In July, the FFA was represented at Freedom Fest. The idea was to help educate people on FFA and agriculture. There was a booth manned by both FFA members and Alumni and on Saturday there were games for children to play, such as a hay bale toss, a sponge toss, and many more, all run by FFA members.
The 2010-2011 officer team met many times this summer to prepare for the years upcoming events and activities. Besides meeting weekly throughout the summer, the officer team participated in Allentown Officer Leadership Training (AOLT) and had a great time. This two-day workshop, run by the advisors, helped the new officer team work on team building and leadership skills. The officers are enthusiastic about the many things they have planned for the upcoming year and look forward to meeting the goals they have set for themselves and for the chapter.
At the September chapter meeting, new members received their Greenhand FFA Degree. The officers practiced hard to make sure that they ceremony went off without any problems. Everyone had the chance to meet new friends and as always the refreshments afterwards were tasty.
In October there will be a chapter outing for all members to attend. All members are invited to go to Russo’s Farm after school and pick apples, pumpkins, go on a hayride, and for those who are adventurous enough, take a ‘turn’ in the hay maze. The Allentown FFA is currently having a bulb sale from now through the beginning of October. National Convention will be held from October 20 to the 23. The Farm Business Management Team will be competing and we wish them all the best of luck! Another event happening in October is the NJ Beach Sweeps. The Allentown FFA will be going to Sandy Hook beach to do their part in helping our beaches and the environment. The chapter meeting is October 28 at 7:30pm at the Ag building. There will be a Halloween costume party following the meeting. October has a lot in store for the FFA and its members!
And they're off! The Allentown FFA Farm Business Management Team has officially left the state. The four member team, coached by V. Jacque Roszel, is on their way to compete in the National Farm Business Management Career Development Event in Indianapolis, Indiana. We wish them the best of luck and know that they will make us proud.
